5 Beginner Tips for Raiders in Meet Your Maker

·

From February 6th – 13th, Meet Your Maker is welcoming new and returning players for an Open Beta Playtest as part of Steam Next Fest.

Anyone with a Steam account will have the chance to step into the game’s post-apocalyptic wasteland for a week of brutal first-person building-and-raiding action. Players can build devious Outposts filled with traps and guards for Raiders to test themselves against, or switch to raiding and take on deadly creations dreamed up by others.

If you’re picking up Meet Your Maker to raid for the first time but don’t know where to start, these 5 beginner tips from Lead Game Designer, Pierre Rivest are the perfect way to get good at going after that Genmat.

Tip #1: Keep an Ace Up Your Sleeve

When contending with a diabolical Outpost, take every advantage you can get. Talk to the Hardware Advisor ahead of your raid to stock up on useful consumables that can give you an edge in the heat of battle. From speed boosts to deployable shields, explosive grenades, and even respawn beacons, the right Hardware can be the difference between a white-knuckle escape and a spike to the skull.

Tip #2: Master the Grappling Hook

As a Raider you can be killed by a single hit, so becoming an escape artist is key to your survival. Meet your new best friend: the Grappling Hook. This tool comes automatically equipped and gives you incredible mobility to escape deadly situations when accidentally triggering a trap. Ex: Should you trigger an AOE (area of effect) bomb trap, you can quickly grapple towards the ceiling as the explosions detonate below before dropping safely back down once the chaos subsides.

Tip #3: Learn the Signs

While a Raider’s margin for error is slim, even the toughest Outposts keep things fair. Traps can’t trigger by themselves, nor can kill you without giving you time to react first. Traps need to see you in order to be triggered, so try to be aware of every corner of your surroundings and what could be hiding around them. Once triggered, every trap will give you both a visual danger indicator and an audio cue before deploying. Train yourself to react quickly to these as they’re your last chance to get out of dodge before meeting a nasty end.

Tip #4: Change it Up

If you’re struggling to beat an Outpost, find a way to alter your approach. Look for a different entry point, change your loadout, head back to your Sanctuary and stock up on new Hardware (as mentioned in Tip #1), or even invite a friend to help you take it down as a team. Remember: dying is part of the raiding process. Take what you learn from a failed attempt, use it, and move forward.

Tip #5: Prepare for a Second Wave

Every raid in Meet Your Maker is split into two waves. During the first, you’ll infiltrate the Outpost, fight your way to the Genmat, and steal it. In the second, you’ll try to escape with your life. Traps and guards can be set to activate only after the Genmat has been stolen, so always be suspicious of familiar areas you think you’ve already cleared out. Try dropping a Phoenix Pod after you grab the Genmat for a one-time respawn from the same point should an unexpected trap get the best of you on the way out.

Bonus Co-Op Tip: Complement Each Other

When teaming up with a friend to take down a particularly tough Outpost, ensure you each bring something different to the table. Have one Raider opt for a more defensive loadout while the other focuses on range attacks. Think about your approach and synergize your roles in interesting ways.

We hope you enjoy Meet Your Maker, and we can’t to see you start taking down Outposts!
